Taking on the Tour de France

Ian Callaghan and friend Only the best cyclists in the world get a place in the Tour de France. But this hasn’t deterred Bristol graduate Ian Callaghan (BDS 2003) from realising his dream. He will follow in the footsteps of his cycling heroes and ride the Tour de France this summer, albeit unofficially.

Ian said: ‘It’s the aspiration of almost every cyclist to compete in the Tour but only a few are good enough. We’re not good enough, so we're doing it by ourselves and in the process w're hoping to raise money for our chosen charities Macmillan and CLIC Sargent.’

The route this year covers 2,200 taking in 19 high mountains in the Alps and Pyrenees. This equates to cycling about 106 miles per day (that's the equivalent of cycling from London to Bath or Glasgow to Edinburgh and back, every day, with the added bonus of mountains).
